Rugged Faith
The first two weeks of camp have been great! I've learned a lot of new skills, and discovered just how out of shape I am :) I'll get to exercise my nursing skills as the camp nurse for two of our five program camps, which is both nerve-wracking and exciting... as well as good motivation to keep me studying for the NCLEX.
During the weeks that I'm not the nurse, I'll be working with campers on one of many outdoor challenges the camp has to offer. In the next week, I'll learn how to belay people on the climbing wall, vertical playground and high ropes course- all of which test students in different ways. I'm extra excited about this because it's something I never expected to learn in my life, and it's a skill that I may take advantage of later on. We've been working on a zipline that doesn't look like it's going to be ready for students this year, but will hopefully be up and running by next summer. I will also get to use my loud voice and bossy nature to coach groups through the low ropes course, which seems to be a good fit for me too.
Until we start our program camps, we have rental groups coming in and out, which means that we even have a little free time on our hands. Yesterday a group of us went out to a nearby rock face (about a stone's throw away from Canada) to test out our skills and confront our nerves all at once.
I had a blast! I'm excited to gain some upper body strength over the next few weeks, and hope that I'll be more successful the next time around, but I still had a ton of fun, and excited to spend the rest of the summer in similar rewarding challenges.
And a view like that reminded me why I love the west coast :)
(I'll work on getting some pictures up soon, the internet is suuuper slow up here)
