Happy Anniversary Liz and Billy!
It was five years ago today that west coast family flew
east, and I cried as my sister walked down the aisle with my daddy, eager to
meet her new husband. A lot has happened
in those five years, but I have loved watching their marriage and family
grow. As the kid whose parents divorced
when she was young, I don’t have a lot of experiences with happy, healthy
relationships like theirs, and that makes me even more grateful that they have
allowed me into their lives.
When I moved in with them two years ago, I hadn’t lived with
married folks in over ten years, and it was good for my recently broken heart
to see there was hope, and when the time and person was right, I too could be
as happy as Billy has made my sister.
When they welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world nine
months ago, I was sure that no baby would ever know as much love as Little
Missy, and watching them grow into fantastic parents has been exciting,
although not surprising. They have
always been willing to make the sacrifices necessary to help each other grow,
cope and flourish.
Thanks, you two, for being such a great example of what it
takes to make marriage last in a society that takes it for granted. Someday, I hope to be as happy as the two of
you.
Thanks, Boo. : ) It's been a pleasure to have you live nearby to be such a regular part of our family life, and I feel fortunate that the longer you've lived here, the more you've been willing to let me be a part of your inner world. I know you won't get married until you're sure you've found the right person, and if our marriage has helped you imagine what you think that relationship might look like, that makes me very proud.
